Performer Info for Daniel Lichti

Daniel Lichti, Bass-baritone, is one of Canada’s finest oratorio singers, and appears with major symphonic, choral, and concert organizations throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and South America. He is also in demand on the opera stage and made his debut at the Rome Opera in Giulio Cesare conducted by John Nelson. The Handel opera was the vehicle for his most recent appearance with Boston’s Handel & Haydyn Society. Highlights of recent seasons have included performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 for the Edmonton Symphony, Willan’s rarely heard Deidre for Toronto’s Opera in Concert, Haydyn’s Creation and Handel’s L’Allegro for the Elora Festival, return engagements with Toronto’s Tafelmusik and The Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Handel’s Messiah in Calgary, Dixit Dominus with the Vancouver Cantata Singers, Faure’s Requiem in Japan, and Berlioz’ Romeo et Juliette with the Quebec Symphony.

In 2001, Mr. Lichti performed Messiah with San Francisco’s Philharmonia Baroque, the Deutsches Requiem for the Calgary Philharmonic, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 for the Vancouver Symphony, and a concert tour, Songs of Venus and Mars, with mezzo-soprano Catherine Robbin. Mr. Lichti’s discography includes Songs of Hugo Wolf, two discs of Bach cantatas and the Mass in B minor with The Bach Choir of Bethlehem on the Dorian label, Sony’s The Gift of Messiah, and recordings of Lieder by Brahms and Schumann with pianist Janina Fialkowska. He is associate professor of voice on the faculty of music of Wilfrid Laurier University.
